I went with my son to the guitar show on Sunday, I went last year and hoped that it would have grown in size and included some big names, however, it was all small companies, most selling effects pedals with a few Luthiers thrown in for good measure.
Last year I met Ben Crow of Crimson Guitars for the first time, the man is a very talented guitar designer and maker who is innovative to say the least, I spoke to him yesterday and he agreed with me that the big companies i.e. Gibson, Fender etc, are struggling to keep producing high quality guitars and are charging far to much for products that just do not meet expectations, I personally would not buy one of the Gibsons or Fenders because for the same money someone like Ben Crow can build a custom guitar built for you to your specs for the same money but to a much higher standard.
Ben showed me a guitar he is working on and at this point it's a secret project, so I will not say too much more, however, it will set a new standard for guitar making.
So I left the show with a couple of purchases, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen interface and a Korg Volca Beats - Analogue Drum Machine for my son's birthday, apart from that I got a few stickers some lanyards and a few brochures, all in all a little disappointing.
If you get a chance, go visit Ben's website www.crimsonguitars.com you won't be disappointed.
